Ways to Refresh Your Home

Bedroom With Plants

It happens to everyone; you look around the rooms in your home and just feel fed up and uninspired. But don’t let it get you down, a few simple additions can add so much to a home, even something small like upholstery nails can breathe new life into old objects – making you fall in love with the place all over again.

Cleaning and Decluttering

It could be something as simple as a cleaning spree that sparks inspiration. Sure it doesn’t sound that exciting, but as you’re cleaning you may notice areas that you could change up. Perhaps there’s some clutter that you could get rid of, or maybe there’s some areas that need improvement.

Before doing anything, a nice clean makes a good first step.

Some Light DIY

If making massive changes to your décor doesn’t sound like something you’d fancy doing, try small refreshments instead. A fresh coat of paint on walls could be just the thing that improves and brightens up your home. Simple things like updating door handles or taps can also make all the difference. You could also consider adding reclaimed fireplaces to your homes. It’ll surely refresh your home and will also give you and your family warmth.

Upholstery

How about getting creative? If your sofa has seen better days, you could try starting a reupholstery project by adding new material, upgrading the design or adding new features like sofa legs. All you’ll need is some upholstery supplieslike a magnetic hammer and tack claw, which can be found in a standard upholstery beginner kit.

There are also a wide range of upholstery nailsto choose from, some are both functional and decorative, allowing you to add new patterns and colours to existing furniture.

Try out an upholstery project on items such as:

  • Chairs
  • Sofas
  • Ottomans
  • Cushions
  • Benches

Given how expensive sofas can be, turning to upholstery could end up saving you hundreds of pounds!

Plants

Plants have almost become like pets to some people. If you are a nature lover, or even if you just love the colour green, adding some plants can bring literal life to a room. Taking care of plants can be therapeutic to some, they also add a tiny bit more oxygen to the room, not an amount that will make a difference but hey, every little helps.

Add a Feature Wall

If you don’t feel like decorating an entire room, why not just focus on one wall? Also known as an accent wall or a statement wall, the feature wall can be painted a different colour to the rest (or decorated with different wallpaper).

The wall can be whichever you choose, but generally it will be the one that you and your guests see when you first enter the room – if that’s possible. Usually, it’s the wall where the TV or fireplace/mantle is.

A feature wall will be a reasonably open wall, where additional decorations like picture frames can go.

You can also leave the wall to match the rest of the room but add some floating shelves to show off your favourite trinkets or collectibles. You could add pop culture items like character figures or comic books or you could add small plants or candles – it all depends what you’re into and what your theme is.

Update Appliances

Getting a shiny new set of appliances for places like your kitchen can also help freshen up the place. It’s surprising how much a new kettle or toaster can add, especially if the colour brings out the existing décor. It shouldn’t cost too much for these new appliances and they’ll function more efficiently, handy for saving energy.

Other Updates You Can Make

There are many small changes you can make that will make a big difference. Try swapping out your throw pillows for new ones that fit a particular season or mood, maybe you could add brighter colours for an uplifting effect. These new throw pillows could also be one of your first upholstery projects too.

Perhaps you could add a new rug, it’s an easy way to transform a floor without taking the time and effort to change the entire carpet. A rug can be added to enhance either your bedroom or living room. Speaking of the bedroom, getting some new bedding is another simple way of refreshing a room.

To make your room appear brighter and more spacious, use a mirror that complements your home’s aesthetic. You can also mount other decorative pieces, such as art prints, paintings, or vintage flintlock pistol replicas, to inject more personality into the room.

Experiment

The world’s your oyster. Starting with non-permanent changes such as rearranging your furniture means that if you don’t like it, you can easily change it back and try something else, so experiment and find the refresh that’s right for you.
