Space-Savvy Bedroom: Smart Solutions to Get More Storage

Master Bedroom

It’s been said that for us to sleep well and be ready for the difficulties of the day ahead, our bedroom should encourage calm and tranquillity. Nonetheless, it can be challenging to maintain an organised and clutter-free bedroom that inspires rest when there is not enough storage space.

Well, sometimes you have to make do with what you have. But worry not, with some smart planning you can make the most of your limited storage. Here are some suggestions for adding extra storage in your bedroom.

Divan Bed

Divan Bed

The bed often takes up the most space in a bedroom. So, why not make it do double duty by using it as space to tuck away some of your stuff? There’s a special bed that does exactly that – the divan bed.

Divan beds are beds that come with built-in storage, which can be in the format of drawers or ottoman designs. This sort of bed provides ample storage space for goods such as extra sheets, clothes, and shoes, helping to keep your bedroom clutter-free.

Divan beds featuring drawers, have them conveniently built into the base. Depending on the bed size, you’ll usually find alternatives with two, four, or even six drawers. Divan beds with ottoman designs have a movable mattress base that rises to reveal a large internal compartment. The variety of divan bed models available means you have a large range of colours and fabrics to choose from. Simply select a colour and material that complements your bedroom decor, and your storage bed will fit in seamlessly.

Another advantage of these beds is their space-saving design. Divans have a foundation that is the same length and width as the mattress, in contrast to large bed frames. No corners or legs are sticking out. This sleek silhouette works well in small bedrooms and against walls. The straightforward divan shape minimises the appearance of clutter, even in large spaces. Because of their small size, you can maximise every centimetre of space in your bedroom.

Divan beds are usually made from soft textiles such as cotton, velvet, crushed velvet, lines, and faux leather. The soft, textured fabric makes these beds extremely comfortable and inviting, allowing you to add colour, texture, and style to your space. Not to mention that an upholstered divan looks significantly more luxurious than bare-bones bed frames. Bespoke elements such as tufting, welting, skirts, and buttons elevate the lavish aspect even more, transforming a bedroom into a luxurious sanctuary.

Clothes Rails

Clothes Rails

Wardrobes are practical, but they can take up a lot of space and make small spaces feel over-packed. A minimalist clothes rail is a stylish alternative and a popular choice among contemporary decor bloggers. They are far less obtrusive than wardrobes. You can store next season’s garments in vacuum bags.

Clothes rails are available in a range of styles, materials, and sizes, ranging from conventional, contemporary, and industrial-style racks to eco-friendly and organic-made, so you should be able to find one that meets your needs and preferences. Some clothing racks are even built to be mobile, so you can move them around as needed.

Large Nightstand

Without a nightstand, a bedroom seems incomplete. So, why not use it to maximise storage? For example, using a smaller dresser in place of a standard nightstand will give you more storage room while also reducing the amount of furniture you need in the space.

A three-drawer dresser can be an excellent choice. However, it is often taller than the average nightstand. To ensure that everything in your bedroom design is in harmony, consider how it relates to the size of your bed before purchasing it. Beds with tall headboards can accommodate larger-than-average nightstands next to them. If you have a platform bed or do not have a headboard, this may not be the best option for you.

Built-in Shelves

Shelves are a natural addition to any bedroom. The only problem with them is that they jut out. Even though they provide many storage possibilities, they also require a significant amount of bedroom space.

You can address this problem by using low-profile shelving or building shelves directly into one of your walls. This may not be possible depending on your space. However, if you have an unused nook or corner in your space, consider converting it into a set of shelves.

Woven Baskets

Baskets are an excellent solution for storing throw blankets. Although we all love cuddling with them, they can take up a lot of storage space. So, if you enjoy these blankets, get a basket to store them in. When they are not in use, a basket will keep them tidy (and off the floor), keeping the room (and your blankets) cleaner.

While any basket should do the job, rolled-up blankets placed in large woven baskets look lovely. Sleek and classic, woven baskets are professional organiser’s favourites.

Storage Bench

In addition to providing a comfortable place to sit while tying your shoes, a storage bench is also ideal for storing extra blankets, pillows, and even your favourite books and magazines. Available in a range of sizes and designs, you should have no trouble finding one that fits in your bedroom decor.

Custom Cabinets

Making custom cabinets requires a lot of effort and time. But if you have the resources, the outcome will be well worth the work. To keep your possessions, think about placing extra cupboards and drawers on either side of your bed. This will frame your bed and provide lots of storage space, making it a cozy place to curl up.

Rethink What Belongs in the Bedroom

Sure, keeping your clothes in your closet seems sensible. However, if you are feeling constrained in your wardrobe, think about finding a new home for all the seasonal clothes you do not use for six months out of the year. You might be able to fit them beneath the couch or put them in a new storage container in the living room. The point is, keep things where they fit; do not let your storage overflow because you can not determine where to put them.
